Pollard family helps make project a reality in Newport

NEWPORT — Although the newest low-income housing project in the county has been completely leased for about a month, officials from East Carolina Community Development Inc. and the town government celebrated Wednesday its grand opening.

Certificates of occupancy were issued March 19 for the 32-unit Castle Glen Apartments, an affordable senior housing complex at the corner of Chatham and New Bern streets. The units were all leased within 30 days, said Mark McCloskey of Beaufort-based ECCDI.
